Our Proposal

Engagement at the Alderbrook Resort

Tyler is a lineman apprentice, which means he is sent to work wherever they need him. Tyler was going to work in Southern Oregon (about 6 hours away), so we decided to go out to a really nice dinner before he left.

As soon as I got home from work on Friday night, Tyler was waiting for me and told me to pack my bags. He changed his mind about dinner and decided that we would stay the night at the Alderbrook Resort since he would be gone for a long time. I quickly stuffed my clothes and toiletries in a bag, grabbed a dress, and hopped in the car.

An hour later, we arrived at the Alderbrook Resort on the Hood Canal. When we got to our room I told Tyler that as soon as I shaved my legs and got dressed I would be ready to go. He replies, “You need to shave? Doesn’t that take like an hour?” I said, “No, only like 10 minutes!”

I walked out of the bathroom and Tyler is no where to be found. I sat on the window seat and read a magazine, waiting for him come back in the room. Probably 20 minutes later Tyler walks in: “We need to talk.”

“What?!” I asked. “Are you going to break up with me at the Alderbrook and strand me out here?”

He nervously laughed and said no as he sat by me at the window, with our gorgeous view of the Canal. Much to my surprise, he proposed! I didn’t think he would propose for another year, although we had been dating for 5 years.

I kissed him and said, “Yes, of course! I am so happy!”

We decided to call two people each. Unfortunately, neither of my parents or my brother answered. I called  two of my best friends and eventually my family called me back, so I got to share the amazing news with them, too.

Tyler called the front desk of the resort and told them he just proposed. We walked downstairs together and were escorted to our table. The beautiful window table was covered in rose petals, a handwritten postcard from the staff, and champagne waiting for us.

It was a gorgeous night and I was so happy to show off my ring at dinner!

I'd love to hear your opinion (good or bad)!
