Inspiration and Deciding on Nautical Centerpieces

There are so many ideas available to us brides of 2014: married friends, weddings we have attended, Pinterest, blogs, Facebook, wedding magazines, and wedding websites like The Knot .  The list is truly endless.  It’s almost overwhelming when there are a million great ideas and only a certain number of days for your engagement.  This is part of why I chose a long engagement.  I avoid stress whenever I can.  I also love to plan and craft.

What really helped me narrow down what I wanted was actually going to a craft store with my mom and Tyler’s mom.  Our local craft store, Artco, has a great selection of craft supplies and they have craft ideas throughout the store already made.  Luckily, there are a ton of nautical items available.  I don’t know if nautical is more popular this year or I’m just more aware of it, but it seems to be everywhere.

The burlap on a frame and cart are examples of ideas we could use in our wedding that I hadn’t thought about yet.  A cart like that would be perfect for drinks or desserts and is easy to decorate.

My advice is to look at the price of already put together crafts and see if it’s cheaper to make it yourself.  Like these jute-wrapped balls below, which were about $12.  Styrofoam Balls are about $0.50 and we already have Jute Twine, so it would save a lot of money to make them ourselves, especially if we wanted a bunch.  On the other hand, if you don’t have a lot of time, then visit a craft store and buy beautiful thoughtful items that are already made.  Sometimes it is cheaper to buy already made items, so don’t assume you can always make things for less.
