Mermaid Nursery
Although Ellie has not yet slept in her room, it is ready for her with a mermaid theme. We were blessed with so many gifts and hand-me-downs to create this space that I hope she loves.
This is our little mermaid in the newborn photo session by Flourish Photography.
Tyler’s sister decorated the cardboard E that we hung on the outside of the mermaid nursery door.

Just like our master bedroom, we installed a sliding barn door by purchasing hardware off Etsy and making the door ourselves with 2x4s and one 2×6. The handle is from Home Depot.
At first, we were changing her on the queen size bed, but it got messy, so we added a changing station (changing pad and cover) to the dresser. The bed is lower than the dresser and softer, so sometimes the pee would run down her and get on the bed.
It’s much easier to just clean a changing pad cover than a whole bed spread. Also, we are using cloth and disposable diapers, so we have a Diaper Genie and hanging wet/dry cloth diaper bag to the right of the dresser.
We got a ton of stuff from baby showers and hand-me-downs, so the closet is well stocked. The things that we haven’t used yet are in the top of the closet. We add this wire hanging shelving system to give Ellie a space that will grow with her. Before, it was a single rod and shelf, which is only practical for an adult, but still lacks storage.
My friend Taryn made the Elyse burlap banner for her baby shower. I think it’s perfect for above her crib.
My friend Zoe painted this beautiful mermaid tail for us as a wedding present. Little did she (or we) know that someday we would have a mermaid nursery! The white frame says, “You are so loved” and features our maternity photos.
I’m keeping the queen bed in here a little longer in case I need to sleep in Ellie’s room as she transitions out of our room.
My friend Karisa made this fused glass aquarium custom for Ellie. Her husband and she have a fused glass business called Blue Drum Art Glass.
I got this fun mermaid sign from Hobby Lobby: “A Mermaid Sleeps Here.”
