College Roomies Reuniting for Girls Night

There are few things in life that can top an amazing girls night.

Last night I met up with three of my college friends. Sara is my old roommate and only lives an hour away from me now in Oregon. The other two were roommates in the same dorm. Samantha lives in Arizona and Alyssa is a proud new mama in Washington. We only get together about once a year and when we do it’s as if no time has passed since we first lived together as 18 year-olds figuring out life, school, boys, and friends in a new environment.

I felt so comfortable with them – like I could say anything, tell any dumb joke, or admit to an embarrassing story – without being judged. It also made me realize I don’t have friends like that in grad school. Most of my classmates are highly competitive, especially since we are all looking for jobs. So last night was exactly what I needed: a breath of fresh air, a loud laugh, a stiff drink, a night of dancing, a few tears of raw emotion.

We have all changed and grown up in our own ways, but we still have fun, and love and respect one another. My old roommate, Sara, is getting married in August so I’m excited to see them all together more than once this year.

I think my Arizona friend said it well with her post-hang out facebook status:

“I cried when I walked away from you amazing ladies today!:( I am so thankful for the wonderful night we had together and feel so lucky that after all these years we all still connect so well! I miss miss you all so much and cannot wait for our next reunion… (hopefully in August :)) Love you all!!!”

I'd love to hear your opinion (good or bad)!
